At the beginning of October 2020, a project entitled “Twinning cooperation for boosting excellence in electrochemical energy storage on the platform of supercapacitors (BISCaps)” was launched with coordinator the Institute of Electrochemistry and Energy Systems at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IEES-BAS). The project partners are the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche - Istituto di Tecnologie Avanzate per l'Energia (CNR-ITAE), Italy and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas - Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnología del Carbono (CSIC-INCAR), Spain.

  • The project "Twinning cooperation for boosting excellence in electrochemical energy storage on the platform of supercapacitors (BIScapcs)" is funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria under the National Program "European Scientific Networks" (Agreement D01-286 / 07.10.2020) and has a duration of 36 months.

Learning by doing

The BISCaps project foresees the cooperation among partner organizations to strengthen the scientific achievements and innovation capacity of IEES-BAS in the field of electrochemical energy storage through supercapacitors. The collaboration is based on “learning by doing” approach and in the course of the research program IEES-BAS will gain expertise by CNR-ITAE and CSIC-INCAR. This programme will foster the discovery and development of new advanced functional carbon materials, metal oxides and other hybrid composite materials as well as the design and optimization of key-electrodes components that improve the performance of new advanced solid-state supercapacitors.

Besides, the integration of expertise among three research centres will allow creating of an international network having transversal competences from materials-to-systems for the platform of supercapacitors.
